Once upon a time…
It all began in May 1988, when Mike, Peter and four other likely lads set up Quadrant to provide clients with consultancy covering strategy, marketing, sales, IT and HR.

It didn’t take long to realise that by being jack of all trades, they would be master of none. And by 1989 Peter and Mike – now supported by two new colleagues – were reshaping Quadrant as a management consultancy.

A new dawn
From early days Mike and Peter decided that Quadrant should not be a ‘sweat shop’. So they created a more relaxed environment, where enjoying projects, working with clients and finding a work/life balance were as important as commercial success and financial reward.

But their breakthroughs soon became a thing of legend — so naturally, the business grew and so did the need for new people. In 1997, new consultants, including William Annandale, joined the team, to meet an increasing client base and workload.

The team soon outgrew its small offices in Shaftesbury Avenue, and moved down the road to Endell Street in Covent Garden in 2000 – where we still are today. Taking advantage of the extra space, Peter and Mike added more people, including Simon Ross and Tharun Nandini. The support team also got bigger, with Laura Mortimer joining as Office Manager.

Small, but perfectly formed
We have resisted the urge to expand more, retaining a core and experienced team, and working with associates and partners where we need specific expertise for particular projects. It’s a business model that works for us, and for our clients.

It means we can spend more time doing what we enjoy, working with a breadth of interesting clients, and less time on having to run the business. It also means we can bring in the right people, as and when we need them, without taking a ‘hire and fire’ approach.
