The Secondment Worker Visa allows individuals to transfer to the UK for a designated role within a distinct organization. This visa is relevant when the applicant’s overseas employer holds a substantial contract with a UK-based entity.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Secondment Worker Visa:
- You must be employed by an overseas organisation. This organisation should have a high-value contract approved by the Home Office with your designated UK sponsor.
- You must have a work history of at least 12 months with your overseas employer outside the UK.
- Your UK sponsor must provide a ‘certificate of sponsorship.’ This certificate should detail your intended work in the UK.
- Your role in the UK must align with the list of eligible occupations specified by the visa guidelines.

Financial Requirements
You need a minimum of £1,270 in your bank account, which should be maintained for 28 consecutive days before your visa application. Additionally, the 28-day period must end within 31 days of your application submission. Exceptions apply if:
- You have spent 12 months or more in the UK under a valid visa.
- Your sponsor can cover your initial expenses up to £1,270.
If accompanied by a partner and children, they must also prove their financial sufficiency while in the UK.
How Long Can I Stay in the UK?
You are permitted to stay for the shorter of two options:
- 12 months from the job’s start date mentioned in your certificate of sponsorship.
- The duration indicated on your certificate plus an additional 14 days.
To extend your stay beyond this period, you can apply for a 12-month visa extension. Furthermore, the maximum stay allowed on a Secondment Worker Visa is 2 years. If you have previously spent time in the UK under a Secondment Worker Visa or any other visa category, your total stay within any 6-year period cannot exceed 5 years.
